Since 2014, Interwork Architects has been working with Duluth Trading Company (www.duluthtrading.com) on the design and implementation of new 15,000 SF prototype standalone retail stores throughout the country. Following the initial Red Feed Store prototype design, with 8 stores either built or currently under construction, we have worked with their store planning and operations groups to develop 2 additional prototype designs (Brick Garage and Old Factory) which are scheduled to be open in 2018. In addition to the free standing stores, Interwork has worked with Duluth Trading Company on tenant remodels of existing spaces, either in regional strip centers, retro fitted existing free standing retail stores or in iconic downtown buildings.
Built in the 1970’s as a hybrid strip center and outdoor mall, Barrington Square’s design had not weathered the years well. Beginning in 1997, Interwork Architects designed modifications that opened up dark corners, smoothed circulation patterns, added retail space, removed outdated components and provided better compatibility with its surroundings.
In the most recent phase, transformation to the new “Barrington Square Towncenter”, the design team worked with the owners and local officials to create new auto circulation patterns, re-work outlots and enhance landscaping and drainage. A major façade renovation program incorporating traditional design elements into a vibrant retail streetscape positions Barrington Square to compete with newer retail developments.
Deciding to construct a new building to better suit their needs and current brand image, DuPage Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram engaged Charles River Development and Interwork Architects to implement their vision. Interwork and CRD put Chrysler standards to work while creating a new 37,500 square foot building, customized to the dealership’s workflow, on a 5.9 acre site in Glendale Heights, Illinois.
The building features a large glass enclosed sales showroom, highlighting the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram vehicles displayed within. Additionally, there are both customer and staff support areas, a two-story parts department and a state-of-the-art twenty bay automobile and truck service department.
